Food & Pantry
The Småland meal heritage is characterized by health and simplicity, with a focus on the ingredients. The menu is guided by the seasons and availability, just as it always has been, long before concepts like locally grown and sustainability became buzzwords. Some of the products we and our local suppliers produce can also be purchased to take home from the farm shop.
The café is located in Södergården’s barn, and many details from the old barn remain. Tall guests have to duck under the old rafters, and further into the space, parts of the old threshing machine are still visible. Outside, there is an outdoor seating area, and picnic baskets are available to borrow for those who wish to eat outside in the fresh air.
Group Bookings
If you are a group of at least 10 people, we offer various meal arrangements and are happy to open outside of regular hours. Contact us for more information.
Sustainable Ingredients
Just like in the past, we primarily use what we grow ourselves and trade for what we need from local farms and small-scale food producers – nowadays, usually for money, to avoid causing offense. We bake everything in the village and use organic ingredients as much as possible. The meat comes mainly from our own pasture-fed heritage breeds, the milk for the cheesecake comes from a nearby farm, and we pick berries and vegetables from the lush Vätterbranterna hills.
Our Own Products
Here at Åsens By, we take pride in offering our own products, ranging from seeds, apple juice, Swedish cheesecake, and meat boxes filled with fresh, locally produced delicacies.
